What would be the photo without the expression of the model?
What would be a bodypainting artist without an enthusiastic model?
That is why each year we are awarding the "World Bodypainting Model of the Year".
We started in 2002 to give the award and present the winners always after the WBF Photo Awards were judged.
Being a bodypainting model is a very special experience, but also a very tough one. Preparing a show, becoming a character, and rehearsing. Standing for many hours, posing for the judging and numbers of photographers and in the end performing on the stage.
Alex Barendregt, Festival Director
For 27 years now the World Bodypainting Festival has been gathering talents from around the world and provides a platform to present artistic values on the highest level. We love to award besides artists and photographers also models and performers. The community around the WBF is quite varied and comes from different backgrounds, often they have full-time jobs such as teachers, hairdressers, receptionists or office workers amongst other professions. Models and performers transform to bring the art and the story of the artist to life.
Being a bodypainting model is a very special experience, but also a very tough one. Preparing a show, becoming a character, and rehearsing. Standing for many hours, posing for the judging and numbers of photographers and in the end performing on the stage. The world of bodypainting appreciates the huge afford that models are giving. Since 2002 we are awarding the “World Bodypainting Model of the Year” and this year we are happy to award the amazing Olga Brumar from Ukraine, living now in Italy!
This year, we are thrilled to recognize a model whose elegance, professionalism, and uplifting spirit have left a lasting impression on the World Bodypainting Festival stage.
Olga Brumar has participated as a model in 2023 and 2024, working with several artists and captivating audiences with her graceful presence and dedication to every performance. A trained dancer from Ukraine, Olga brings natural poise and expressive energy to the stage—perfectly complementing the creative vision of each bodypainting work.
One of the artists she worked with, Lucia Postacchini, shared:
“I’ve had the joy of working with Olga during the WBF in 2023 and 2024, and I truly admire her soul. She’s incredibly professional—always prepared down to the smallest detail—and deeply committed to bringing each character to life. Her background in dance gives her elegance and confidence on stage. Olga is not only a talented model, she’s also kind, transparent, and brings harmony to every team. I know she has worked with many artists, and everyone who collaborates with her feels the same: she makes the creative process a true pleasure.”
Olga’s warm character, her ability to embody artistic concepts, and her vibrant presence on and off stage make her an invaluable part of the bodypainting community.
With great joy, we present Olga Brumar as your WBF Model of the Year 2024!

The COVID pandemic
This positive euphoria for the WBF 2020 was suddenly stopped. Everything changed in one day. Our initally small idea to organize a reduced live festival and an online contest turned into a hybrid mega event with 600+ participants from 55 nation in 17 time zones.

2022
25 Years Anniversary
The 25th anniversary was the first full Live Event after the COVID pandemic. Back in the beautiful Goethepark in Klagenfurt a worldwide community celebrated almost like back in the old days. The russian attack on the Ukraine had also a big effect on the festivals participants, costs in travel and infrastructure. Dispite the big loss of money for the organisation, we organized a big fundraiser to help a hopital in the ukraine by financing emergancy cars.
#wbf25years - it is the END of a story, and the beginning of a new one.
2023 - 2024
Moving into an indoor location
Generation Next was announced in 2022 and from 2023 we moved into an indoor location. The WBF always had to adapt to new situations and challanges. It showed in 2022 already how hard Covid hit us as a community and event organizer. Keep on fighting for our community was our goal.
The Exhibition ARENA in Klagenfurt should be the beginning of a new format. We decided to focus on the artform with photography and videography. Big music concerts and headliners were not part of the new plan. The indoor location gave contestants a very equal and fair basis for the contest. Amazing works were presented and captured.
The original spirit of the WBF as an outdoor event was missing, the contest though got a higher quality and the layout was benefitial for the World Awards.

WBF splits up
When we launched the World Bodypainting Festival in 1998 we didn’t expect that this will last for years nor for decades. We have been faced with challenges during the 27 years. In 2025 we will have a break of the usual festival format.
Instead of the traditional single-location festival, we will take our vibrant community on a journey, celebrating art, culture, and connection in some of the super inspiring locations.
The special thing about the World Championships is that they are hosted in various host cities throughout the year, while there is still only one World Champion Title in each category.
